Adventure sailors who believe offshore voyaging should leave more than a wake will find a new reason to look at Panexplore’s 2026 expeditions. The company has announced the launch of its Sea Dragon Ocean Fellowship, a program that places ocean scientists and content creators aboard its 72-foot steel-hulled expedition yacht Sea Dragon alongside paying guests and professional crew.

The goal is to combine long-distance sailing with real-world ocean research and storytelling that helps protect the seas cruisers depend on.

“The new Sea Dragon Ocean Fellowship program will make Panexplore expeditions all the more unforgettable and unique,” said Panexplore business manager Sanda Marichal. “Now, in addition to sailing to beautiful, remote destinations, guests aboard Sea Dragon will play a role in uplifting the voices of those protecting our precious seas and oceans.”

For cruising sailors, the idea will feel familiar. Many long-range voyagers already log wildlife sightings, collect water samples or share firsthand accounts of ocean change from anchorages and sea lanes few scientists ever reach. Panexplore is formalizing that spirit by inviting researchers and content partners to join its expedition schedule.

A Proven Bluewater Platform

Sea Dragon returns to service after a year-long refit and a recent Atlantic Rally for Cruisers crossing in support of Project SeaLabs. Built of steel and designed for high-latitude sailing, the 72 footer is a serious offshore platform, capable of handling long passages and remote coastlines.

The 2026 itinerary reflects that range, with voyages planned in the Caribbean, passages between the United States and Bermuda and Arctic sailing along the coasts of Greenland.

For cruisers accustomed to making their own way across oceans, the appeal is not just the destinations but the opportunity to sail with a professional crew while contributing to something larger.

A World Class Skipper

To support the expanded program, Panexplore is also strengthening its onboard leadership. In early 2026, Sea Dragon will be skippered by Emily Caruso, a veteran professional sailor with nearly two decades of experience including training for and competing in around the world races.

A New Way to Sail With Purpose

Ocean scientists and conservation-focused storytellers can apply to join the fellowship by contacting Panexplore directly via the company website panexplore.com or email: hello@panexplore.com. Guests book normally, but will sail alongside researchers gathering data and creating content that amplifies the realities of ocean health.

For long-range cruisers, the model highlights how modern voyaging is evolving, with today’s offshore sailors becoming more active observers, advocates and partners in the stewardship of the ocean.Berths aboard Sea Dragon are limited and Panexplore says they fill quickly, a reminder that expedition style cruising continues to draw sailors who want their miles to matter.

Electric propulsion continues to gain momentum in the boating world, and VETUS is pushing that evolution forward with the introduction of its new E-Line 22 kW electric motor. The Netherlands-based manufacturer says the new model is its most powerful electric offering to date, designed to deliver familiar performance with the added benefits of zero emissions and near-silent operation.

Rated at 22 kW with a maximum torque of 130 Nm, the E-Line 22 kW is built to provide strong, responsive acceleration from a standstill and immediate deceleration when required. VETUS says the motor’s output makes it suitable for vessels up to 50 feet and displacements of up to 20 tons, opening electric propulsion to a broader range of cruising boats and small commercial craft.

The system incorporates advanced range-management technology to help operators make the most of available battery capacity. VETUS’ Sailing Assist firmware is designed to optimize efficiency during acceleration, cruising, and emergency stopping, aiming to deliver predictable and intuitive handling that mirrors the feel of a conventional diesel auxiliary.

One of the E-Line 22 kW’s key selling points is its modular, ready-to-install design. The motor is delivered as a complete system, requiring only the choice of control lever and cooling solution, either keel cooling or freshwater cooling, to match the vessel’s configuration. Its compact footprint allows it to be mounted on many existing engine foundations, making it a realistic option for refits as well as new builds.

VETUS has also designed the E-Line platform to be expandable over time. Owners can tailor their systems with different control levers, shunts, and display options, allowing upgrades as needs or cruising plans evolve.

The timing aligns with regulatory trends, particularly in Europe, where an increasing number of waterways and harbors are being designated as low- or zero-emissions zones. High-powered electric propulsion offers boaters access to these areas while delivering quiet operation that enhances the on-the-water experience.

Instead of flash sales and doorbusters, Mustang Survival is again using Black Friday weekend to support clean oceans. The brand announced it will continue its Blue Friday initiative, donating funds to help remove plastic pollution from coastal waters and encouraging other companies to do the same.

Blue Friday launched in 2019 as a way for outdoor and marine brands to redirect the consumer rush toward environmental impact. For the third year, Mustang Survival will lead the effort and rally partners to contribute a portion of holiday sales to a nonprofit dedicated to ocean health.

“For the past two years, Mustang Survival has opted for Blue Friday instead of Black Friday,” said Anja Mueller, Mustang Survival’s director of marketing and e-commerce. “Our role is to grow the movement, amplify its impact, and invite more companies to take part.”

For 2025, all donations will support the Ocean Legacy Foundation, a Vancouver-based organization focused on removing and recycling ocean plastic. The campaign will help fund large-scale cleanups along British Columbia’s coast. According to the foundation, every $4 donated removes one pound of waste from the Pacific and redirects it to their recycling facility in Richmond, British Columbia.

“It’s rewarding to bring more intention to a season that’s often focused on spending,” Mueller said. “By helping continue the Blue Friday legacy, we’re giving people a chance to shop with purpose and support cleaner oceans.”

Mustang Survival is calling on like-minded marine and outdoor brands to participate and contribute to the Ocean Legacy Foundation this year. Sailors and consumers can also back the effort by choosing to shop with Blue Friday partners.

A piece of ocean-exploration history is poised for a new chapter. The historic 68-foot catamaran Moulin à Vent, once part of Jacques Cousteau’s pioneering fleet, is undergoing a full restoration in St. Augustine, Florida. The project is led by the Once Was Lost Stewardship Initiative, a nonprofit focused on ocean plastic recycling and awareness.

The team launched a crowdfunding campaign on October 28 with an initial public goal of $50,000. The ultimate target is $300,000 to complete the rebuild and return the boat to service.

Used as a research vessel in the 1980s, Moulin à Vent (“Windmill” in French) will be transformed into a modern, environmentally focused platform for exploration and conservation.

“This is no ordinary boat restoration,” said Kyle Gerecke, CEO of Once Was Lost. “We’re reviving a legacy and giving her a new mission for the oceans in a time when they need it most.”

The plan calls for solar-electric propulsion, recycled-plastic components, and onboard media and research capabilities. Once refit, the catamaran will support marine-debris cleanup, scientific expeditions, educational programs, and documentary storytelling across the Atlantic and Caribbean.

Henri-Lloyd has unveiled the Bergen Range, a line of lightweight, high-performance mid-layers designed with sustainability at its core. The Bergen Hooded Jacket and Bergen Gilet are the brand’s first garments made from NetPlus fabrics, derived from discarded fishing nets, and Repreve insulation, sourced from recycled plastic bottles.

“The Bergen range is more than just a new style of high-performance technical mid-layer,” says Kim Ramsay of Henri-Lloyd. “These are the first garments from Henri-Lloyd that have been created using NetPlus and Repreve, enabling us to deliver outerwear that is functional without relying on virgin resources.”

Available in Navy with Off-White, Navy, and Sea Spray colorways, the Bergen Hooded Jacket retails for around $330, and the Gilet for around $260. Both come in sizes Small through 2XL. The pieces feature a chemical-free C0 durable water-repellent coating and recycled PET insulation to provide warmth and weather resistance, whether worn on their own or as a layering piece under foul-weather gear.

The NetPlus program, managed by certified B Corporation Bureo, recycles end-of-life fishing nets into nylon pellets that are then spun into durable yarns. Compared with virgin nylon, NetPlus manufacturing reduces greenhouse gas emissions by 20%, water use by 70%, fossil fuel consumption by 67%, and energy use by 68%. The program also supports coastal communities and environmental reinvestment.

For insulation, Henri-Lloyd uses Repreve, the world’s leading brand of recycled performance fiber, which transforms ocean-bound bottles into moisture-wicking, odor-resistant, and durable insulation. To date, Repreve has diverted more than 40 billion bottles from landfills and coastlines.

“We chose Repreve because it offers warmth without bulk, moisture and odor control, and long-lasting performance,” Ramsay adds. “Together with NetPlus, this range epitomizes our belief that performance and responsibility must go hand-in-hand.”

The new Bergen line marks a step forward for the iconic British sailing brand, continuing its legacy of innovation while aligning with modern sustainability goals.

TEMO, the French company known for producing the world’s lightest outboard motor, debuted its new TEMO 1000 at the Newport International Boat Show in September. The follow-up to the award-winning TEMO 450 combines more power with the same compact, lightweight design—and maintains its US price point despite new tariffs.

“We feel we’ve priced the 1000 fairly for the power and innovative features it offers,” said TEMO co-founder and CEO Alexandre Seux. “The current environment involving changes in trade and tariff policy does not change our minds about this.”

The TEMO 450 became a favorite for dinghies and small craft after its 2018 launch, earning a Pittman Award in 2021 and an IBEX Award in 2023. The new TEMO 1000 offers significantly more thrust, designed as auxiliary propulsion for lightweight sailboats up to 26 feet. A retractable tiller handle stows away neatly on larger vessels but is instantly available for dinghy or raft use.

“The slimline transom bracket allows the height of the motor to be adjusted to exactly suit the height of the boat’s transom,” said TEMO co-founder and general manager Justine Perussel. “Long and short shaft versions are therefore no longer required.”

Early testers have praised the 1000’s performance. Bill Lynn, president of the Herreshoff Marine Museum and America’s Cup Hall of Fame, ran the TEMO 1000 on a J/70. “We were able to hit five knots—a bit quicker than with our 2.3 HP Honda and in a much tidier package,” he said. “It’s lighter and much easier to travel with than a gas engine and seems like a great way to be more friendly to our ocean environment.”

Dealers and builders are also seeing its potential. “The 1000 has more than double the power and is perfect for all-around use with the Storm 18 or anything similar,” said Bill Crane, partner at Storm Marine Group. Bridget O’Brian of North Atlantic Inflatables highlighted the motor’s versatility: “The adjustable shaft length means one motor will work on both a dinghy and larger transom sailboat. The super lightweight motor and battery makes it easier for anyone to use and move.”The TEMO 1000 weighs about 33 pounds including battery and features simplified construction with few parts, making it easy to maintain and support. Next, it will be featured at the J/70 Corinthian Worlds at Eastern Yacht Club in Marblehead. For more information, visit temo-usa.com.

European electric propulsion company Remigo has introduced its next-generation outboard, the RemigoOne Neo, a lightweight, four-horsepower-equivalent motor designed for tenders, dinghies, and small recreational craft.

The new model builds on the original RemigoOne with enhanced performance, a refined design, and additional smart features aimed at simplifying the switch to electric propulsion.

At the heart of the Neo is a 1500-watt boost mode that provides the equivalent of four horsepower for 60 seconds—ideal for pushing through chop, tide, or getting a heavier boat moving. Afterward, the motor reverts to its standard 1000-watt cruising mode, but skippers can reactivate the boost as needed.

“The boost mode gives skippers an extra gear when they need it, without wasting battery on marginal gains the rest of the time,” said Marko Vrtovec, CEO of Remigo.

Weighing just 34 pounds including its integrated 1085 Wh battery, the Neo is the lightest motor in its class. The carry weight drops to 29 pounds if the outboard bracket remains on board. A redesigned propeller provides quieter and more efficient operation, and control options include either a handheld remote or a tiller-mounted unit.

For sailors watching the evolution of onboard systems, Vetus is proving that the future of cruising is clean, quiet, and more connected than ever. The Dutch marine systems specialist is rolling out a slate of technologies in 2025 aimed squarely at making docking, maneuvering, and anchoring both more intuitive and more sustainable—an innovation trend resonating strongly with modern sailors.

Among the standouts is the E-LINE electric propulsion system, a compact 48V drive designed for both repowers and new builds. It features Active Electronic Braking, which removes the need for a clutch or gearbox, allowing for quick, precise course changes with minimal energy loss. The result is a cruising experience that is smooth, responsive, and silent—traits increasingly sought after by mariners looking to reduce their environmental impact without sacrificing performance.

For close-quarters maneuvering, the BOW PRO thruster series offers proportional control that delivers fine-tuned responsiveness in marinas, strong currents, and tight approaches. The system’s quiet operation and natural feel at the helm are engineered to lower stress in one of the most challenging aspects of boating.

Vetus is also shining a spotlight on Maxwell anchoring solutions, trusted for over half a century. These systems are designed to perform under punishing conditions, making anchoring easier, safer, and more reliable whether you’re on a small cruiser or a bluewater passagemaker.
